[UPDATE: 2:16 p.m.] Stephen Ardrey, 30, of Springfield, Missouri, will face sex trafficking charges in federal court, according to Boston.com.

Ardrey was taken into custody in Rhode Island Thursday in connection with 17-year old Brittany Thompson’s disappearance faces a federal court hearing in Massacusetts today, according to an unnamed law enforcement official.

Boston.com is reporting Ardrey was the person Thompson left the Medfield library with on Monday.

Ardrey is set to appear in front of US District Court Magistrate Judge Patricia A. Sullivan today.

Police took the Ardrey and Thompson voluntarily to the Coventry R.I. station for questioning yesterday after someone reported that he or she had spotted them at 6:48 a.m.

This case is not being treated as an abduction according to the boston.com report; Medfield police said Thompson appeared to leave library with Ardrey willingly.

Yesterday, police searched a West Greenwich motel where Thompson and the Ardrey may have stayed.
