Best-selling author Tom Clancy has died at the age of 66 in a Baltimore hospital. There’s been no word yet on the cause of death but his publisher confirmed to The New York Times that he passed away last night.

Known primarily for his espionage-thriller novels, Clancy’s works spawned an entire franchise of video games that bear his name, most notably Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Many of his literary works were also adapted into feature films, like the submarine nail-biter The Hunt for Red October starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, Patriot Games starring Harrison Ford, and The Sum of All Fears starring Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman.

Clancy’s works nearly all feature his foundational character Jack Ryan, who has appeared in all but two of his novels.

According to Gawker, “His next book, Command Authority, is scheduled to be published on December 3.”

A native to Maryland’s largest city Baltimore, Clancy was Vice Chairman of Community Activities and Public Affairs, as well as a part-owner of the Baltimore Orioles. He is survived by his wife Alexandra Marie Llewellyn, whom he had met in 1997.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to BostInno for the latest information and cause of death of the late best-selling author Tom Clacny.
