The best day in Boston is almost upon us.  A day when all of us who are Irish (or at least pretend to be because we are ginger) get to celebrate our heritage by doing what we do best, talk about how much we are going to drink.

Just kidding, we drink, a lot.

This week Drizly is going to do a 5 day countdown to St. Patty’s Day entitled: Irish Celebration.  Enjoy.

Boston is a great Irish city fraught with great Irish bars and pubs.  To kick off the week, here are our 5 favorite Irish watering holes in Boston.

Hennessey’s– Boston

Hennessey’s has won best Irish bar in Boston 6 years running for a reason, their authenticity.  Most Hennessey’s employees seem to be Irish, the decor is eerily reminiscent of an Irish tavern, and the location is ideal nestled in the stretch of bars near Faneuil Hall.  If you’re looking to eat lunch or grab a couple of pints with the boys after work and want to connect with your roots, Hennessey’s is the place to do it.

Corrib Pub– Brighton, Brookline, and West Roxbury

I’m pretty sure you have to be 100% Irish, accent and all to even go into the Corrib.  The Corrib was acquired by the Bligh family in 1969 and has been a home away from home for many of the Western Irish residents and visitors to Boston.  Their tagline “It’s Home But With More Taps” says it all.

The Kinsale– Boston

Their welcome message “Cead Mile Failte” meaning literally “100,000 Welcomes” sets the stage perfectly.  The Kinsale was built from the ground up in Ireland.  From the bar to the tables and chairs, everything about The Kinsale screams authenticity.  If you’re in Government Center and looking for awesome Irish music and unique craft beer on tap, The Kinsale is your spot.

Burren– Davis Square

Opened in Somerville in 1996, the Burren is yet another worm hole into the heart of Ireland.  Not only does the weathered look and feel of the bar force you start speaking Gaelic, but it’s tough not to start spontaneously Irish-jigging along with the traditional bands that frequent the Burren.

Green Briar– Brighton

The Green Briar certainly provides the most modern entertainment of these 5 bars.  With traditional Irish music on Mondays, karaoke on Wednesdays, and English Premier League soccer matches televised on the weekends, the Green Briar is another home away from home to many of Brighton’s Irish residents.

If you’re up to it, try to make it around to all of the bars listed above on St. Patty’s day.  No doubt you’ll be speaking in tongues by the end of the day.
