The excitement of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament is officially on us. We’ve already told you how this year’s March Madness is more connected than ever, but with requests from the community we dove in a little deeper on the mobile front. Whether you’re the biggest college basketball fan around or whether you can’t wait until your screen is free from it, there’s an app built just for you. Here are five iPhone and Android apps for wherever you fall on the love-hate spectrum of NCAA basketball:

DELIVER LIVE ACTION – EVERYWHERE.

You’re a true fan if you’re planning out exactly how to optimize as many screens as possible (TV, computer, mobile, tablet) to watch multiple NCAA tournament games at once. In the past you’ve probably bought extra cable and Internet cords or lugged TVs from other rooms (or even other apartments) into your cave of NCAA heaven. This year, save yourself the hassle and invite as many friends with iPads, iPhones and other tablets to your place. The NCAA is delivering live, streamed games online and to any iOS device. So whether you want to watch the games on the go or whether you want to make the most of a second screen while watching another game, download the NCAA March Madness On Demand app on all the iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches you come near.

FEED ME UPDATES.

You’re a true fan, but it’s just not in your cards this year to be able to sit in front of a screen and watch games all day and night – or even sneak it at work or on your phone. But this doesn’t mean you can’t stay up to date on play-by-play action. Push notifications are your new best friend in this situation, and ESPN ScoreCenter (iPhoneAndroid) is arguably the best. This app allows you to customize which teams you’re interested in following, delivering plays and final scores over push notifications so you don’t even have to wonder about when a game is ending or who’s winning.

I’M IN IT FOR THE BRACKET.

For many of us, sure we care about watching the games (especially the endings), but we care even more about how our brackets perform. If you’re this type of March Madness fan, there’s plenty of apps to have on hand. We recommend these two:

ESPN Bracket Bound 2011: ESPN has the most popular bracket game on the web, ESPN Tournament Challenge. Their Bracket Bound app for iPhone and Android allows you to store up to 10 brackets and easily follow the ESPN Leaderboard to measure your performance against some of the best brackets out there. You can even share some your brackets privately or publicly with friends, families and other groups. On top of bracket management, this app includes exclusive ESPN video content with players and coaches as well as scoring updates for each game.

HuddleHub: We also had to underscore Boston-based HuddleHub, maker of fantasy sports apps (on the web and mobile) that help you manage your teams across multiple leagues. This year HuddleHub released a brand new Fantasy Bracket Challenge for the tournament online. Instead of picking teams, with HuddleHub’s fantasy bracket you pick players and can play with friends. Points, rebounds, assists: all of these are taken into consideration and will add a new layer of fun to your bracket routine with friends and colleagues. Learn more about the challenge here.

PLEASE ENTERTAIN ME.

March Madness isn’t for everyone. But just because every TV you come near is blasting 24-7 NCAA college basketball for the next week, doesn’t mean you can’t make it more fun. Enter: trivia. Whether you want to keep yourself occupied or whether you want to dish out questions to see who the true, hardcore college basketball fans are, download the iQ College Basketball Trivia app (iPhone only). For $0.99 (half it’s normal price) and complete with a timer and scoring, this app delivers hundreds of multiple choice questions that test NCAA knowledge.

What other apps would you recommend in each of these scenarios?
