Treat Yo’ Self is an ongoing BostInno series that highlights a deal in the city where you can indulge without suffering financial ruin. Check back each Tuesday for a new way to pretend you’re rich – we’ll even provide the most appropriate scenario to accompany the bargains.

Who: You’ve got a friend whose birthday is coming up, but the thing is, she usually hates her birthday. No cake, no candles, no big ordeals – but you’ve got something you know she’ll like anyway up your sleeve.

What: A new dessert menu culled by Boston songstress Andrea Gillis. The menu trio, dubbed “Gilly’s Throwback Snacks,” is inspired by retro favorites that tie together the restaurant’s throwback style and affinity for games, all for $6 each. You can expect Pac-Man Lemon Cake with sweet blackberry filling, white chocolate glaze and blueberry brown butter sauce, Raspberry Sorbet Bon Bons served over Aperol raspberry coulis, and a Cheese Plate with Great Hill bleu cheese, berries, marmalade and toast.

When: The menu is available from 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, and 2 p.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

Where: Brass Union, located at 70 Union Square in Somerville.

Why: Because you know that deep down, your friend who hates birthdays still doesn’t want her birthday to go completely unnoticed, and these fun treats won’t feel excessive. Plus, you’ve probably been meaning to check out Brass Union, the new tavern in town that has games like shuffleboard and tabletop video games, as well as an outdoor patio and an eclectic menu from Executive Chef Jonathan Kopacz.

How: While Union Square isn’t super easily accessible by T, it’s available by several bus lines and the spot does have street parking and a parking lot. Splurge for your friend and get out there by car or Uber.
