Khairullozhon Matanov, a friend of alleged Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is entering a plea of guilty to destroying evidence. Matanov was the fifth person to be charged in connection to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings when he was indicted in May 2014.

From Quincy, Mass., Matanov stands accused of deleting files from his computer and destroying cell phones as well as lying to investigators about rendezvousing with Tsarnaev and older brother Tamerlan after two pressure cooker bombs detonated near the Marathon finish line. The indictment notes that Matanov was in contact with each brother, and saw Tamerlan at least twice in the days and hours prior to the bombings.

The Associated Press reports that Paul Glickman, Matanovs Lawyer, would not comment if the plea indicates that the defense reached a deal with prosecutors, suggesting that Matanov may testify against Tsarnaev.

News comes hot on the heels of Tsarnaev’s jury selection, the trial of which is slated to begin on Jan. 26. On Monday 124 jurors were excused as part of the selection process to find 12 jurors and 6 alternates. Over a three day process, 1,350 potential jurors filled out 28 pages worth of questions.

A pretrial conference was scheduled for Matanov on May 11, after which jury selection on June 8.

The charges initially levied against him were one count of destroying, altering, and falsifying records, documents, and tangible objects in a federal investigation, specifically information on his computer, and three counts of making materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements in a federal terrorism investigation.
