Tufts University has completed its $1.2 billion “Beyond Boundaries” campaign, the largest fundraising effort in the university’s 159 year history. $1.2 billion was raised in the campaign, double that of the previous campaign which was completed in 2002.

Tufts publicly announced the campaign back in November 2006, aiming to complete the goal this year in 2011. Since announcing the campaign, 140,000 donors contributed $434 million for scholarship programs. In addition to this scholarship money, $386 million was donated for faculty recruitment and research, $137 million for new campus facilities, and another $41 million for financial aid and to finish construction on athletic facilities.

Two donors in this Beyond Boundaries campaign donated a $100 million a piece, the largest donations ever to Tufts. In fact, overall, six of the highest campaign donations ($609 million in total) were the largest in Tufts’ history.

The goals of Beyond Boundaries were thoughtfully developed with Tufts’ academic leadership to support our core priorities as a top teaching and research university,” said Jonathan Tisch, trustee, alumnus and co-chair of the campaign. “Fifty percent of all alumni supported the campaign and these priorities. To be able to garner this kind of support, particularly in this economy, is not only a good story for Tufts, it’s a great story.”

The completion of the campaign aligns with the University’s President, Lawrence S. Bacow, stepping down after 10 years.
