On early Wednesday morning, December 24, a fire in Kendall Square caused substantial damage to MuLan, a Taiwanese restaurant located at 228 Broadway.
Nobody was injured in the two-alarm fire, according to Wicked Local Cambridge, which was set ablaze at around 3 a.m. “Structurally, the building will probably be OK. But the interior is probably going to have to be gutted because of the extent of damage,” said Assistant Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney.

Mahoney noted, however, that the fire mostly burned in the ceiling storage area above the kitchen.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and it’s unclear what the monetary extent of the damage is at this time. The restaurant had already been closed for about a week, due to what appears to be minor renovations, and also caused some smoke damage to Beauty’s Pizza next door.
According to popular eatery blog Boston Restaurant Talk, “MuLan Taiwanese Cuisine first opened in the former Pho Lemon space approximately 10 years ago; they also have a second location on Main Street in Waltham.”
