The University of Massachusetts Boston debuted on Thursday a vibrant portrait in remembrance of Boston Marathon bombing victim Krystle Campbell. Campbell, 29, studied sociology at the South Boston-Dorchester campus from 2005 to 2007 and worked as a restaurant manager before being tragically killed in the dual explosions that rocked Boylston Street on Marathon Monday, along with 23-year-old Boston University student Lu Lingzi and eight-year-old Martin Richard.

According to CBS’s local affiliate, UMass, along with MassBay Community College, established scholarships in her honor. The former also awarded her a posthumous degree back in May.

Boston Harbor’s Spectacle Island Park similarly boasts a gazebo that bears her name.

The painting was unveiled in the school’s campus center, but a committee will be designated with the task of finding a permanent residence for it to hang.

“It’s just beautiful,” he said of the completed painting via a statement by the University. “There really are good people in the world.”

The portrait was commissioned by Board of Trustees member Dick Campbell – no relation. When he discovered that Krystle, like him, was a Medford-native as well as a UMB student, he took it upon himself to find a way of celebrating her memory. Cameron Bennett of the UK was chosen as the illustrator.
