Here in Boston, we’re no strangers to the famous family-owned burger joint, Wahlburgers. Since its opening three years ago, the Hingham-based restaurant has been the subject of an A&E TV series, and has experienced immense success in its own right (the frappes are pretty delicious). Now, the Boston Globe is reporting that today, December 4, Wahlburgers will unveil plans to open 27 additional locations.

Plans are already in the works to open two Boston-area locations, including one in Lynnfield and one in the Fenway neighborhood. This past August, we reported that the restaurant’s founders, Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg, were even seeking $1.4 million in investment for the Wahlburgers upcoming Lynnfield location. Bostonians can expect to see this second Massachusetts Wahlburgers location open at MarketStreet Lynnfield, hopefully sometime soon.

According to the Globe, the Wahlberg brothers were looking to open their Fenway location on Brookline Avenue “in time for opening day at Fenway Park next year.” Now it looks as though they’re aiming for a summer opening.

But, per the Globe article, the Wahlbergs aren’t stopping with Massachusetts. The expansion plans include “deals for three (locations) in Las Vegas and five in the Philadelphia area.” Last month, the restaurant opened their second restaurant in Toronto, Canada. According to CTV News, this Toronto opening is part of expansion plans that include multiple openings across Canada.

There’s further proof that Wahlburgers really is taking over the world.

And that will soon include Florida as well. The Globe reports that the first of 20 forthcoming Florida Wahlburgers location will “likely be” in the Orlando area and will be opened by franchisee Manny Garcia.

While the burger joint will certainly face plenty of competition along the way (think Tasty Burger, Five Guys, and a host of other quick-serve burger chains), the Massachusetts-based restaurant does offer a few differentiating characteristics that will surely set it apart. Not only is the restaurant owned by celebrity brothers with their own reality TV show, but, as the Globe points out, the eatery also offers sit-down service and alcohol. Not to mention, people actually enjoy the gourmet burgers– making it a step above other celebrity owned restaurants (many of which have failed).

According to the Globe, the Wahlberg brothers say eventually, there “could be up to 300 across the country.”
