Currently, Somerville restaurant, Journeyman, accepts reservations online through Rezbook but that may be changing. According to a tweet by Devra First, the Somerville restaurant will begin implementing a ticketing model over traditional reservations.

Journeyman isn’t alone. Many restaurants nationwide have started moving away from traditional reservations, opting instead for a ticketing model, which makes diners accountable for their reserved (and coveted) table at the restaurant. Instead of simply placing a reservation online or by phone, diners must purchase tickets ahead of time – just like they would for a play or a show.

NPR reported earlier this year that “the number of exclusive eateries that sell tickets for meals is growing.” The reason for this is that more and more chefs and restaurant owners are becoming frustrated by the number of last minute reservation cancellations.

First’s tweet also points out that a ticketing model for Journeyman means less expensive meals midweek, which is good for diners who are serious about enjoying a meal at the restaurant.

Journeyman’s executive chef and co-owner, Diana Kudayarova, told BostInno that they plan to roll out the ticketing model this Saturday, October 4 and will start taking ticketed reservations for this upcoming November.

With this trend growing, you can be sure that more and more Boston restaurants – especially expensive ones – will also start moving towards the ticketing model in the months to come.
