UPDATE: Mayor Gray confirms 12 fatalities

UPADTE: Hospital reporting severe injuries in critical conditions but victims able to communicate with medical personnel. Chances of survival for victims “very good.”

It’s being reported this morning that at least one shooter at Washington D.C.’s Navy Yard has injured multiple victims including at least three civilians and two officers, though the U.S. Navy initially confirmed only one and has since cited ‘”several” in total. Tallies vary but it’s being circulated that as many as 12 may have been shot, four of whom may have been killed.

The local Twitter handle MyFoxDC notes that one of the possible suspects, a male carrying what’s thought to be an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, is on the contained but not apprehended within a Navy Yard building. Ladder 36 of the D.C. Fire Department notes that a victim was found at New Jersey and M streets while one officer, a MPD officer, has been rushed to MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

The Washington Post is now reporting that the one of the gunmen has been located though has barricaded himself in a room, likely at the Navy Yard.

The Navy noted in a press release that “Emergency personnel are on scene and a ‘shelter in place’ order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel.”

The U.S. Navy has also confirmed over the popular social media network that a shooting did take place, though details are scarce at this time. The incident was reported at around 8:40 a.m. ET this morning, though the U.S. Navy notes three shots were fired at approximately 8:20 a.m. at the Navy Sea Systems Command Headquarters, Building 197. Some 3,000 people work there engineering, purchasing, building, and maintaining ships and submarines for the Navy.
