Making the internet rounds today for you to check out is the new Divergent official trailer released over the weekend. The new video clip comes less than a week after a 13-second teaser emerged last week. Based on the novel of the same name and scheduled to hit theaters on March 21, 2014, Divergent features an eclectic cast ripe with budding starlets and established actors.

Building upon the recent resurgence in the futuristic dystopian society genre a la The Hunger Games, the synopsis is set in down-the-road Chicago where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different human virtue. When one reaches the milestone of sixteen years old, the young adults must decide if they want to stay in the faction they’re respectively assigned to or switch to another and stay there for the rest of their lives. But, what happens if a teen doesn’t fit any of the virtues? Perhaps it has something to do with being a…. Divergent.

The cast is anchored by veteran Academy Award winner Kate Winslet (Titanic, The Reader) and up-and-coming star Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, The Spectacular Now) as well as an accomplished director in Neil Burger. Even better for the movie, though, is the already built in audience courtesy of Veronica Roth’s novel of the same name which has garnered near-universal acclaim.

Burger has helmed popular mid-range budget movies like Limitless and The Illusionis tthe latter of which received critical acclaim and an Oscar nod. Both of those two films combine for a $43 million budget, almost half of Divergent‘s hefty $80 million.

Of the script, Roth noted optimistically, “Reading a script is a really interesting experience. I’d never read a script before. I was really impressed by how closely it stuck to the general plot line of the book,” which should come as no surprise as the script was adapted by screenwriters Vanessa Taylor, who’s penned a number of Game of Thrones episodes, and Evan Daugherty who contributed to Snow White and the Huntsman.
