With Halloween and October officially ending this week (tear), it’s time to start gearing up for more weekend non-foliage related getaways. Hey, it was beautiful while it lasted and at least we now have the holidays, overeating and lots of twinkling lights to look forward to. So if you’re looking to celebrate the first weekend of November in all of its glory, I recommend heading north for the Maine Brewers Festival in Portland, ME.

Yes, it’s cold but you might as well enjoy some good brews up north before the weather is truly insufferable. And this festival is the way do it. The Maine Brewers Fest will be celebrating the best of Maine’s craft beer — hops and all. And not only will you get a great deal on drinks but you’ll also get to experience the beautiful city of Portland. To make your planning quick and simple, here’s where to stay, what to do and where to eat this weekend.

Stay Here

Inn on Carleton

46 Carleton Street, Portland, ME

If you’re looking for a charming inn close to the festival as well as a big breakfast to help deal with that hangover the next morning, then this is definitely a good option. The inn offers exceptional hotel rooms at fairly affordable prices. And it’s conveniently located located in the West End district of Portland.

Maine Brewers Festival

239 Park Ave, Portland

Alright folks, here are your weekend plans. The 20th annual Maine Brewers Festival will be celebrating the local craft beer community this Saturday, November 2. With your tasting glass in hand, you can sip 4 oz. pours of Maine beer while enjoying music and food. Some of the brews include Allagash White, Sea Dog Brewing Co., and Shipyard Brewing Co. (among many others).

There will be two tasting sessions. The first is the Happy Hour Session from 1:30 to 5:30p.m. and the second is from 6:30 to 10:00p.m. Both sessions cost $41. Buy your tickets here.

Eat Here

Due to the number of good restaurants in Portland, this was a tough decision. The two I recommend are…

Local 188

685 Congress Street, Portland, ME

Grab some tapas at Local 188 and enjoy their Farm to Table selections. Their Tapas includes Spanish-inspired plates of seafood paella, wild Maine mussels and seared scallops.

Duck Fat

43 Middle Street, Portland, ME

If you’re looking for delicious yet inexpensive sandwiches and classic Belgian fries then this is your joint. The adorable spot also offers  paninis, soups, salads, charcuterie, sodas and homemade milkshakes.
