The idea of biking is to get off the couch, disconnect from your gadgets and enjoy nature while cruising down the street at lively speeds. But before you unplug completely, it may be worth scanning the internet to see which urban bike routes are optimum for what you’re looking for. A new startup out of The Netherlands offers a glimpse of which road is best suited for cyclists’ metropolitan meanderings.

Cyclodeo may be just what you need to enjoy National Bike Month to its fullest. A spontaneous bike ride can certainly yield enjoyable results and afford one the opportunity to stumble across hidden civic gems and urban treasures of yore. But it could also lead you down a street laden with bumper-to-bumper traffic, or perhaps one without cycle tracks, or to a neighborhood not particularly known for its public safety.

Gizmodo refers to Cyclodeo as a company “that’s geo-tagging POV clips of urban rides.” It’s aggregated various video clips from bikers to allow prospective cyclists to explore cities’ oft-traversed, or rarely tended, courses of direction.

So far, Cyclodeo has only garnered footage from seven cities worldwide. There’s New York City and San Francisco here in The States, as well as AmsterdamEindhoven and Helmond in The Netherlands; Copenhagen in Denmark; and London in the UK.

The above video, if you haven’t checked it out yet, is of a joy ride through The Big Apple’s Central Park.

Boston, of course, is missing from the cities in Cyclodeo’s arsenal, however, The Hub continues to push to become an internationally recognized city for biking. With help from the likes of LivableStreets Alliance, though, and other bike safety advocates battling for increased security measures and tightened regulations, Boston could be up on Cyclodeo’s site in no time.

You can, however, bid to get your city featured on Cyclodeo. Simply sign up and request to “unlock your city.” When they receive enough requests pertaining to a specific community, they’ll begin uploading video clips.
