Maybe you’re not a New Year’s Eve fan or maybe you’re simply burnt out from the holidays – either way, you don’t feel like dealing with this year’s New Year’s Eve bar scene in Boston. And trust us – you’re not alone. Personally, I hate getting trampled by hordes of drunk people blowing whistles and confetti in my face. No thanks.

So for those seeking a different kind of New Year’s Eve, we’ve rounded up a few not-so-lame alternatives to the typical bar celebration. All you’ll need to bring is the champagne!

Champagne Cocktail Competition at Home

Hosting a party at your own home? Besides the obvious New Year’s Eve decorations and games, we recommend also implementing a fun champagne cocktail competition amongst friends. Have each couple or individual create their own unique New Year’s Eve cocktail right in front of everyone. After a taste test, vote on the winning cocktail. Cheers!

Enjoy a Boston Pops Concert

If you’re looking to stay far away from a bar this Wednesday night, we suggest purchasing tickets to the annual New Year’s Eve Boston Pops concert. This year, the special performance, which takes place at 10 p.m., will feature well-known bandleader, Bo Winiker. Check here for tickets.

The Boston Comedy Festival

Ring in the new year with a good laugh. This New Year’s Eve, the Boston Comedy Festival is hosting several performances – one at 8 p.m. and one at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night in Somerville. For tickets and information, check here.

A Fireworks Dinner Cruise

If you’re looking for a change of scenery this New Year’s Eve, try a fireworks dinner cruise. Mass Bay Lines is hosting a three hour dinner cruise with DJs, dancing and more. Tickets are $50 and will get you a front row seat to the Boston Harbor Fireworks Show.

Enjoy a Staycation

If you want to make New Year’s Eve feel like a vacation, we recommend taking a “staycation” with your significant other right here in Boston. Many of the area’s hotels are offering specials deals including the InterContinental Boston. The waterfront hotel is offering a New Year’s Eve package for $399, which includes early check-in, a late check-out, and access to the fitness center.
