Boston was supposed to host the New England Cannabis Convention on Jan. 31 but the medical marijuana networking and showcase event has been postponed. The reason: the New England Patriots are playing in Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1.

Organizers of the event sent out an email saying that the NECC’s new dates have been scheduled for Fed. 21 through Feb. 22. The email didn’t mention a change of venue from the Castle at Park Plaza.

“In the past 36 hours we’ve gotten a flood of inquires from booth vendors, speakers, and our own staff about the possibility of being able to leave early Sunday, or not even come at all because they didn’t want to miss the Super Bowl,” they wrote,  “in addition, a huge portion of ticket holders have requested to switch their admission from Sunday toSaturday because of the game.

The NECC is the region’s first large-scale exhibition dedicated to the medical marijuana industry. Patients will with growers and vendors, and everyone will be privy patient awareness information on products and edibles that may suit their personal affliction, and best practices on the part of the Commonwealth for implementation.

After the legalization of medicinal marijuana by ballot initiative in 2012, the Department of Public Health awarded its first dispensary license just prior to the new year. Alternative Therapies Group in Salem was the recipient and they hope to open their doors sometime in the spring of 2015.
