For many of us, moving in with a significant other is a big step in the relationship. It means you’re going to see that person all the time, split all the bills, share all the same TV shows (you know how it goes). But at the same time, shacking up together means getting to spend more time with your best friend – and what could be more fun than that?

As all of you are trying to decide whether to re-up your lease or move, you may find yourself pondering just how soon is too soon to move in with that special someone? According to this chart (below), it’s different for everyone. Rent.com surveyed renters to see what “concerns popped up the most,” according to YourTango.

Most respondents did seem to be in favor of moving in together before marriage. 37 percent were actually in favor of moving in together after just six months to a year. And 18 percent prefered to wait until marriage to move in with their significant other.

Notable was the fact that a third of respondents between the ages of 18 and 24 agreed that couples should wait until marriage to move in together. I guess kids these days aren’t exactly jumping the gun – not to mention, we’re also waiting longer to just get married in the first place.

Merging your living situations is a big decision but best if you decide now, before the big September moving season – and Allston Christmas headaches.
