Today, Where, Inc. is announcing the newest version of their flagship app, and it is a HUGE upgrade. The new version, which is available for iPhone’s today (already available for Android) now boasts a real sleek UI and focuses on their patented recommendation engine and high-quality guides from local experts.

The Where app is a staple in BostInno’s T-Mobile phone, but previously lacked fun social features and an eye appealing UI. These upgrades re-affirm Where’s mission to be the leading mobile destination for people looking to decide “where should I go next?”

“Our goal is to own the ‘pre check-in’ space,” said Walt Doyle, Chief Executive Officer, Where, Inc. “It’s time to fundamentally change how mobile users discover the world around them. Where’s unparalleled Recommendation Engine and fun, user-friendly interface enable the best possible local discovery experience.”

For most people, deciding on a new place to go to dinner is a rather scary process. Where do you even start to look, and what if you hate the food? Personally, I don’t ever try a new restaurant unless it is referred to me by a friend. A friend that knows me and knows what I am into. And that is exactly what the new Where app is trying to do with their new personalized recommendation engine . As you browse, rate, and visit certain places the app is ‘getting to know you’ and can provide recommendations catered specifically to your likes and dislikes. You can even sync with your Facebook account, and Where will provide recommendations based on things and places that you have ‘liked’ within Facebook.

Another exciting new feature on Where is the local guides. If you are new to a city, just visiting, or looking to try new things, Where has you covered with over 20,000 custom guides. These guides range from best restaurants in Boston, to yoga classes in San Francisco and more. I am also told that the ability for users to create guides is on the way, but not available just yet.

Where also hinted at quite a few new upgrades due out in the near future:

“We’re really excited about the additional features we’ll be rolling out in the next several months to further enhance our users’ local discovery experience,” Nataly Kogan, VP of Consumer Experience at Where added. “Seeing where your friends want to go or what their favorite places are is a great way to get recommendations so we’ll be making it easy to experience WHERE with friends. Targeted exclusive deals – say, at a place that’s on a user’s “want to go” list – are coming soon, as well as the ability for our users to become local experts by publishing guides to their favorite spots around town.”
