Back in February, an Instagram (above) posted by Narragansett’s Pete Boyd caused quite the stir. The picture showed a Narragansett can covered in the Del’s lemonade label, sparking rumors about the potential matchup of two iconic New England brands, combining for the most Rhode Island summer shandy ever.

And now, months later, the news is confirmed. According to word from the Narragansett press team, the shandy is to be released this week in Southern New England and New York – just in time, as yesterday’s 80-degree weather left us all looking for relief from the heat already.

The shandy is the second installment of Narragansett’s limited edition Hi Neighbor Mash-Up series, combining the Del’s lemonade concentrate with Narragansett lager for the tastiest, tartest summer shandy we can imagine. The beer will be 5.0 percent ABV, and will be sold in six packs of 16 oz. tall boys in all major liquor and beer retailers around Boston.

Even better news for Boston imbibers? The shandy will also be available in select bars around town, including Lir, McGanns, Crossroads, Globe Bar & Café,  Jerry Remy’s, Who’s on First and Yardhouse. Might we make a suggestion? Head to Jerry Remy’s Fenway rooftop deck for baseball games this summer on their outdoor patio TVs, Del’s summer shandy in hand.

We’ll update the list if we hear of more bars selling the Narragansett and Del’s shandy, and get ready for a sweet summer in Boston.

Update 5/20/14: Warehouse and Pastoral are also selling the shandy.
