The Boston Food Truck revolution is still in its infancy with only a handful of trucks on our cities streets.  More and more keep popping up so we thought it was about time to offer a recap of where we stand with our mouth-watering mobile food.

It’s been over 4 months since Boston’s first annual Food Truck Festival and fortunately, a lot has happened in that time.  City Councilors Mike Ross and Sal LaMattina are leading a movement in City Hall to add 25 food truck permits to the hub.  Last year the two made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles, the food truck Mecca, to learn about the good, bad & ugly side of this emerging industry.

“This can be a great thing for the neighborhoods of Boston but it has to be done correctly.” said Councilor LaMattina. “I’d love to see a “First Friday” event where 20 trucks roll into Downtown Crossing on the first Friday of each month – imagine the positive impact on the local economy.”

The two councilors compiled their findings in a fascinating five-page report that discusses everything from potential impact on traffic to the environment and waste disposal regulations.  They have also proposed legislation all indicators point to having it pass, so we should be looking at 25 new mobile chefs on board by late spring.

With the possibility of these new food friends rolling the streets of our fair city let’s celebrate some of the veterans as well as some of the newbies.

@Americashotdog

One of the originals, the WSJ even recognized Speed’s Dogs as one of the best hot dogs in America.  If you have never had the pleasure as of a loaded dog, I would suggest telling your boss that you are not feeling well, leave work immediately and race over to Roxbury.

@Fillbellys

Been around the block and are often seen trolling the BU corridor.   They specialize in Chicken & Waffles – need I say more

@TheRibTruck

M & M Ribs – the real deal.  If you want to know how ribs are done right….find this truck!

Buffalo Bo’s

There is no Twitter account but a FB page will tell you that they are located at the Millennium Park VFW Pkwy in West Roxbury, Bo knows wings!!!

@ Cupcakory

As their website declares “Cupcakes that are baked by hand in small batches, the old-fashioned way.”   Who doesn’t like the idea of mobile cupcakes!

@ FoodTruckNation

Free-wheelin’ Hub-Grub from top chefs Todd Saunders & Ron Sarni

@staffmealboston

High expectation and an excellent pedigree are on tap as Adam Gendreau (Circle, Bistro du Midi) and Patrick Gilmartin (Bravo at the MFA) bring their delicious treats to the streets.

Opening in the next few weeks, Roxy’s will offer their tasty take on the Grill Cheese.  Chef/owner James DiSabatino has a degree in Entrepreneurship, loves to cook and has plans to use technology from Innerfence to turn his iPad into a credit or debit card terminal.   “It’s cool because instead of printing receipts, we can email them to our customers allowing us to cut down on paper and reduce litter said DiSabatino

Clover

Clearly the local gold standard, Clover has well-deserved cult following and has worked hard to achieve it.  Simple food that is insanely good and with its ever changing menu you can (and should) eat there 3-4 times a week.  They also offer afternoon snacks like fried @GrilloPickes (yum).
