It’s finally arriving! The much-anticipated South End project from Boston Nightlife Ventures, Wink & Nod, will open tomorrow, March 20 at 5 p.m. The speakeasy, located at 3 Appleton Street, will feature specialty craft cocktails and food from the Whisk team.

Earlier this month, we reported on the unique collaboration between Whisk’s chefs and Wink & Nod, set to be called “Whisk at Wink & Nod.” Many Boston residents (myself included) were excited over this bit of food news – and looking forward to getting their Whisk fix in the South End.

According to an official source, the a la carte menu at “Whisk at Wink & Nod” will include:

  • Venison Tartare, with parsnip, pumpkin seed, mint and a quail yolk.($19)
  • Yakitori in Smoke, a selection of skewered meats including quail, confit chicken, beef shortrib, or confit pork belly served trapped in a mason jar with cherry wood smoke that rises up in a dramatic, fragrant plume ($17-32)
  • Black Pasta, a thick jet-black squid ink tagliatelle pasta with baby octopus, miso, cauliflower, black garlic ($23)
  • Desserts, including a Homemade Fresh Twinkie filled with homemade hazelnut brown buttercream ($8)

And the drink menu certainly isn’t lacking, either. General Manager Curtis McMillan and his team of bartenders have put together quite an interesting and creative drink menu. The bar features original cocktails named after “pop culture’s grand dames” and spirits from regional craft distilleries like GrandTen, Bully Boy, and Berkshire Mountain Distillers.

As you can see from the photos, the interior of the Wink & Nod has a vintage-inspired ambiance. Complete with red and gold hues, as well as wood and marble accents, the atmosphere will transport you back in time.

But the speakeasy’s twists on old-school cocktails and innovative food are anything but old fashioned.
