The weather system expected to dump eight to 12 inches of snow on Boston Wednesday finally has a name. Winter Storm Nika is currently sweeping through the Midwest and is expected to bare down on Boston Tuesday night. Already the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of Massachusetts and New England at-large.

The Winter Storm Warning is slated to go into effect Tuesday at midnight and last through 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Thought to accompany the eight to 12 inches of fresh powder is 10 to 15 mph winds with gusts reaching 25 mph, temperatures in the mid-20s and limited visibility.

For those anticipating still having to commute to work in the morning, be sure to travel carefully and drive with the utmost caution. The recent wet weather coupled with snow and falling temperatures ups the likelihood of icy roads and, of course, car accidents.

Though Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has yet to enact a snow emergency or parking ban, there’s a chance he will. In those instances, cars are advised to avoid idling in certain parking areas for the likelihood of hindering snow plows. Be sure to tune into BostInno for the latest updates regarding snow emergencies and parking bans as we’ll be sure to update you as information continues to roll in as well as help guide you to parking spots in order to keep you from receiving a neon orange ticket or worse, getting towed.
