Hodges dropping knowledge

There is so much talent here in Boston that is simply not harnessed or even focused on improving the community. Sure ‘office hours’ are a decent idea and one off Skillshare classes are kind of fun, but they lack in execution, interest and overall community support. But that is all about to change with the launch of Intelligent.ly.

Intelligent.ly is a community space where entrepreneurs connect to learn, collaborate, innovate and create. Much like New York’s GeneralAssemb.ly, the concept will foster peer-to-peer learning across topics related to entrepreneurship, leadership and professional development.

The new initiative is led by Sarah Hodges, Director of Fitness at RunKeeper, and Dave Balter, CEO of BzzAgent / Exec Chair of Smarterer as a way to promote knowledge transfer and idea generation. The two have made it clear that this is a side project and that they are still fully dedicated to their current roles. In addition to Hodges and Balter, Mike Troiano (Holland-Mark), Christopher O’Donnell (Hubspot) and Aaron White (Boundless Learning) have all signed on to be advisors of Intelligent.ly.

“Dave Balter and I have been putting our heads together on how to harness all the amazing talent in town to grow the Boston startup community, and we came up with the idea for Intelligent.ly,” said Intelligent.ly Managing Director Sarah Hodges. “We’re both working on the project in addition to our full-time startup gigs, so this really isn’t about growing a big, scalable, revenue generating machine-it’s about making it easy for people to connect and learn from their peers. Events like this week’s RubyRiot make it clear that Boston’s innovators truly want to help each other succeed. Intelligent.ly bridges experts and entrepreneurs to help develop skills in a creative, collaborative environment.”

General fees for classes will initially range from $20 – $50, and the space will live at 500 Harrison Ave., in the BzzAgent building, with SmartererProctorCamHelp ScoutPromoboxxEat BostonAlphabet Arm Design, and Seth Minkin, the Artist-in-Residence.

Here are a few of the classes that are already setup.

  • [Branding] How To Tell Your Startup’s Story Effectively (Mike Troiano, Principal, Holland-Mark)
  • [Creative] The Importance of Design & Branding (Aaron Belyea, Owner, Alphabet Arm Design)
  • [Marketing] The Four Key Methods to Driving WoM and Customer Advocacy (Dave Balter, CEO, BzzAgent & Exec Chair, Smarterer)
  • [Marketing] Marketing Analytics Basics (Sarah Hodges, Director of Marketing, RunKeeper)
  • [Marketing] Getting To Imperative: A Framework for Strategic Marketing in 2012 (Mike Troiano, Principal, Holland-Mark)
  • [PR] How to pitch a journalist and control your message (Greg Gomer, Managing Editor, BostInnovation)
  • [Product Management] Product Marketing 103 (Christopher, O’Donnell, Director of Product Management, Hubspot)
  • [Programming] Introduction to NoSQL with MongoDB (Aaron White, CTO, Boundless Learning)
  • [Strategy] WANTED: Engineer to Build My Product (Cort Johnson, Director, Terrible Labs)

Yeah, I’m in there. I am absolutely thrilled to see this launch and could not be more excited to watch this project grow. There is no doubt a need for knowledge transfer in Boston and having a dedicated space and a talented group of folks leading the charge will ensure that it happens. Kudos to Hodges and Balter for kicking off this community focuses project.
