Last week I watched the Sochi Games while on the elliptical. Yes. The irony of chugging along on the “cross-country” setting while watching pros actually ski cross-country does not fail me. And I realized: mayyyyybe I should kick things up a notch. Step one? Find out what the gold medalists do to get fit.

According to Men’s Health, Ted Ligety – giant slalom gold-medal winner for Team USA – trains a total of 30 hours a week, following this routine. Included? Dead lifts, wall sits, and barbell squats. (Ligety does an easy fifty-three 235-pound barbell squats in two minutes. No pressure.)

Follow it, and the 2018 gold is practically yours. Or maybe just that six-pack.

Check out the workout on Men’s Health.
