Henry is the first real character in VR, and Oculus Story Studio hopes that the technology will establish a connection between character and viewer. With ‘Henry’, Oculus attempts to take a step back from the futuristic sci-fi themes that have dominated virtual reality and introduce more heartwarming, family friendly themes into its repertoire. The hope is to publicize Oculus’s mainstream appeal before its device launch next year.

Henry the hedgehog is an original character developed by Story Studio’s production designer Kendal Cronkhite, the architect of Dreamworks’ Madagascar films, along with Bernhard Haux, previously a top character artist at Pixar.

In the film, user’s meet Henry on his birthday and find him all alone in his home, wishing for friends with which to celebrate. With the VR technology, you are invited to navigate the nooks and crannies of Henry’s house, allowing viewers to explore his 3D world.
