Microsoft is continuing its push towards cross-platform gaming, announcing that users will be able to stream Xbox One games through their Windows 10 PC’s and into the Oculus Rift, Venturebeat reports.

The announcement comes as a part of a larger partnership that the two companies revealed at an Oculus event, yesterday. In addition to the Rift streaming option, the partnership includes full Rift support for Windows 10 and the inclusion of a compatibility Xbox One controller with every headset.

The move is a logical step for Microsoft, which recently introduced software that enabled users to play Xbox One games and Xbox live on their PC’s and tablets. VentureBeat quotes Head of Xbox Phil Spencer as saying, “It’s been really important [to us] that we can bring the greatest of Xbox One games and Xbox Live to PC and tablets everywhere. I’m really proud to announced that that same streaming capability will be available for the Oculus Rift.”

That being said, streaming Xbox One games through the Rift will not create the same, first-person VR experiences that users encounter playing made-for-Oculus features. Rather, VentureBeat reports that it will give users the impression of playing their favorite Xbox One games in a private cinema room.

Oculus has likely included this feature in an effort to compete with Sony’s Morpheus, which will allow users to play a number of PS4 games in virtual reality. The advantage of Oculus’s streaming option is that it will allow users to play all Xbox One games on the Rift, while Morpheus will only be compatible with certain PS4 games.
