1. Every problem has a solution – or many. Employers like problems solvers. If you think you can figure it out, offer your opinion respectfully. Test it out. Don’t be afraid to play devil’s advocate, or better yet, ask someone to do it for you.

2. Commitment is king. Leaving the office for happy hour ahead of a looming deadline is the opposite of what a promotable employee would do. Show your commitment by reaching deadlines, staying late, and ignoring the old fashioned 9-5 mindset. 

3. Boundaries are there for a reason. Don’t mix business and pleasure, or bring in outside problems to work. Respect the hierarchy and relationships in each office and always be straight forward about issues or concerns.
