CASS FALL PROGRAMS INTERN

Job Description: Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS), a community-based and -led organization that aims to empower the DC Metro area to build a community free from public sexual harassment and assault, is looking for a Fall Programs Intern. The primary focus of the internship will be to work with CASS staff to launch RightRides DC, an innovative, safe late-night rides program for women and LGBTQ individuals in DC. Based on RightRides for Women’s Safety in New York City, the program has already received a groundswell of support in DC. The intern will assist with policy-related and programmatic details for the the RightRides launch this fall. The intern will also provide support as needed for such areas as social media, outreach, fundraising and development and support for Safe Bars, our program to train staff at alcohol-serving establishments to proactively intervene during situations that might lead to sexual assault.

This is an exciting position, and we encourage creative thinking around community-building, fostering collaborations, and developing and providing grassroots direct services.

This is an UNPAID opportunity, but we will work with your college or university to provide you with course credit.

Work with CASS staff to develop and implement outreach strategy and identify community partners to help get the word out about RightRides in the service area.

Duration: 15-20 hours/week for 4 months, beginning in September 2013. This is a work-from-anywhere position, but applicants should be located in DC as there may be some in-person obligations. Applications are due August 1. Duties: The Programs Intern will play a key role in planning and executing the launch of RightRides DC, along with other CASS programming. Tasks include:

  • Collect, organize and review volunteer applications;
  • Research potential RightRides funders/donors;
  • Track news coverage of RightRides;
  • Provide support for other CASS projects, including research and social media/blog outreach.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to self-manage and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, with a preference for graduate students (but a willingness to consider talented and passionate candidates at any educational level).
