Google is now making it harder to ignore all the calories in that Big Mac you just ate, as the Internet giant has started displaying the nutritional values of fast food meals on its search pages.

Now if you search “calories in a Quarter Pounder,” a box pops up on the search page that tells you how many calories the burger contains, and another figure appears displaying more detailed nutritional info.

It seems that this quick search feature for individual food items is currently only available for McDonald’s items, but Google also displays nutritional values for the entire menus of other chains like Wendy’s and Burger King. Just type in “Wendy’s calories” and a menu will appear that shows the calories in each of the restaurant’s items, and you can click on the item names to get more detailed info.

This move is part of Google’s push to make nutritional info more readily available to consumers. In this vein, the company hopes to one day provide users with software that can give nutritional info based on food photos. Though this fast food quick search lacks the ease and versatility of such a photo-based app, it is certainly a step forward in making people aware of what they’re putting into their bodies.
