Budgeting… every college kids worst nightmare. I have always been pretty good about saving my money and creating a reasonable budget for myself. It wasn’t until I noticed how frequently students in my classes missed lectures or skipped class that I found out just how much missing a class costs.
Every once in awhile you can justify missing a class. Say you had too much fun the night before, or even just missed your alarm clock; turns out missing your class could be costing you hundreds.
Attending college for the 2012-2013 year at the George Washington University is about $62,268 total with all the expenses. $47,290 out of that $62,268 accounts for classes.
Let’s do some math.
You pay $62,268 to go to George Washington, meaning that you pay about $31,134 per semester. That’s not cheap! If you’re taking 16 credit hours this breaks down to about $3,891.75 per class.
So how much does it cost to miss one class? How about we look at a Monday/Wednesday classes. In one semester we have about 14 weeks of classes. If class is 2 times a week that is 24 lectures a semester. This means that each 8am class you miss costs you about $162.16!
