Pizza Hut has taken the dinner and a movie concept and stuffed it all into an intricately designed pizza box. In Hong Kong, the pizza chain has begun delivering some pizzas in boxes that can be used as movie projectors.
Designed by Ogilvy Hong Kong, the “Blockbuster Box” requires only a smartphone to bring pizza-themed film to your home. Each box has a QR code on the side, which you can scan with your phone to download an original movie. You just pop out the perforated hole in the side of the box, set up the lens that comes on top of your pizza table and stream the your phone through the lens.
Pizza Hut has released 4 boxes, each with its own associated movie. The options are Slice Night, a horror flick, Anchovy Armageddon, a sci-fi thriller, Hot & Ready, a romance, and Fully Loaded, an action movie.
The quality is about what you’d expect from a Pizza Hut-produced projector, but the idea and designs on the boxes are enough to make this a genius marketing strategy.
